Decoration quote or tax invoice? Checks for a UAE celebration purchase

Decoration quote or tax invoice? Checks for a UAE celebration purchase — Lunar Moments editorial illustration

When checking a celebration purchase, first identify the document in front of you. A product listing, a quotation and a document presented as a tax invoice should not be treated as interchangeable records. Keep the selected decoration scope beside the actual document so you can ask a precise question about any difference.

The Federal Tax Authority’s consumer tax-invoice checklist offers four useful checks. The official PDF was checked on 22 October 2026, and its example invoice is dated 2019. Use this as a bounded consumer document check, rather than an exhaustive statement of current tax-invoice law.

Identify which document you have

Record the supplier name, document title, reference and date. If a message contains a total without identifying the document, ask what it represents. Do not rename an estimate or quote “tax invoice” in your own records because the amount looks final.

Keep the quote version and agreed items together. The birthday-package comparison guide helps with the earlier scope comparison. Here, the job is checking the purchase document and resolving differences, rather than choosing between decorations.

Apply the FTA’s four consumer checks

For a document presented as a tax invoice, the FTA checklist highlights its title, the displayed Tax Registration Number, a VAT-inclusive displayed price and the VAT amount. Compare those fields with the actual document; ask the supplier to explain anything missing or unclear.

Four fields to inspect, with a specific follow-up
Checklist field What to record If unclear
Tax-invoice title [Exact title on the document] Ask which purchase document has been supplied.
TRN [Supplier-provided number and named supplier] Ask for the relevant supplier identity and number.
VAT-inclusive displayed price [How the document labels its price and total] Ask which figure is the total payable for the stated scope.
VAT amount [Amount actually shown, or “not stated”] Ask for the actual tax treatment; do not enter zero by assumption.

This guide does not establish Lunar Moments’ VAT registration, invoice format, invoice timing or tax treatment. Those require the actual supplier information and purchase documents. Do not calculate a tax amount from an assumed rate or infer a right to recover tax from this checklist.

Use the official identity-check route

The FTA website provides a TRN/TIN verification entry point. If you use it, work from the number and supplier identity actually provided, and keep the real response with your document question. No supplier number has been checked for this guide.

Keep that identity check separate from the rest of the purchase. It does not answer whether the selected decorations, delivery arrangements or event date have been agreed, and it is not a payment or booking confirmation.

Match the total to the same version of the purchase

Check whether the document relates to the latest agreed items, date and requested changes. Look for delivery and other separately discussed amounts rather than comparing the invoice total with a catalogue amount alone.

For a concrete Lunar example, The Birthday Moment lists 35 helium balloons, two 40-inch number balloons and coordinating ribbon. That listing specifically excludes the delivery fee, which is calculated separately. Retain that product-specific qualifier; it does not establish another product’s charges or any VAT treatment.

In a fictional case, a buyer has a revised quote containing a delivery amount but an earlier purchase document beside it. Before relying on either total, the buyer asks which document covers the current proposal and requests clarification of the difference. The discrepancy is a question to resolve, not proof of an incorrect tax charge.

Keep a short reconciliation card

  • Document: [Supplier, title, reference and date].
  • Matching proposal: [Quote reference and exact agreed scope].
  • Amounts: [Items, separately stated delivery or extras, VAT line and total as shown].
  • Identity check: [Supplier-provided details and any actual official response].
  • Open question: [Difference to explain and supplier’s answer].
  • Separate records: [Actual payment confirmation and booking status, where available].

Ask Lunar Moments to clarify your proposed purchase documents with the relevant reference and specific question. The quote guidance covers agreed scope and total; an enquiry or quote does not itself confirm a booking.

Celebration purchase document questions

Are these four fields the complete current tax-invoice rules?

No. They are the checks highlighted by the FTA consumer PDF, whose example is dated 2019. This guide is not an exhaustive current legal specification.

Does an unstated VAT amount mean zero?

No. Mark it as unstated and ask the supplier for the actual treatment and document explanation. This guide supplies no tax rate or Lunar VAT-status claim.

Does a TRN check confirm my decoration booking?

No. Keep any actual identity-check response separate from the agreed decoration scope, payment record and booking confirmation.
